Join Revels this August for an exciting theater workshop for kids! Participants will sing, dance, act, and learn stagecraft as they put on a mummers-style play under the playful direction of Debbie Birkey and Charlie Stevens.

This immersive theater experience for young revelers is sure to delight. Five days of singing, acting, stagecraft and more will culminate in a performance for friends and family on Thursday, August 29th. The performance is set to be held during our Community Sing at McDuff's Cafe, so there will already be an audience full of supportive and exuberant Revelers!
Debbie Birkey, playwright, actress, musician and educator, and Charlie Stevens, stage performer, teaching artist and musician, will guide the troupe through the process of creating a production from casting to the final bow. Theater games, singing, acting, blocking, costumes, and set building will all be part of this experience designed especially for kids.

Debbie BirkeyKnown for her clever and hilarious poetry and incredible musical talent, Debbie Birkey has been singing, performing, and teaching music for many years. Her ability to transpose music on the spot is unrivaled. She has taught children of all ages in music and theater, and has been a longtime esteemed singer and actress in the Midwinter Revels cast and chorus, as well as a dedicated member of the Puget Sound Revels Board of Directors. Debbie is a delight!

Charlie StevensAn award-winning stage performer, teaching artist and musician from the Pacific Northwest, Charlie has been involved in the local theatre scene for fifteen years. In that time he has worked for Tacoma Arts Live, Tacoma Musical Playhouse, Tacoma Little Theatre, Lakewood Playhouse, ManeStage Theatre Co, Auburn Ave Theatre, UWT and UPS, among several others. He has been a student of the Summer Institute at American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco, CA. His experience in adjunct theatre education includes Metro Parks Tacoma, Puyallup School District, and Franklin Pierce Schools. He is a recipient of multiple BroadwayWorld Awards, South Sound Critics’ Awards, and was a nominee at the 5th Avenue HS Theatre Awards.
