Puget Sound Revels® builds community through the arts using traditional song, dance, and story drawn from many cultures. Revels offers theater productions, seasonal celebrations, and educational opportunities for people of all ages, races, genders and across the community.
We strive to:
Honor every person’s presence and gifts and invite all peoples to light their truths at our hearth. We welcome individuals of all ages, races, and gender identities, and strive to create spaces of authenticity and safety.
Celebrate all communities – past and present. We are committed to building a diverse community founded in respect, inclusivity, and delight.
Dance with joy and sing in unity. We believe that shared story, song, dance, and ritual build and expand our sense of community and have the power to bring people together even in times of darkness.
We license the Revels name and logo from Revels, Inc. in Watertown, MA (founded in 1971). There are currently nine active Revels companies throughout the United States. Each company has its own non-profit status, and is contractually and artistically affiliated with Revels, Inc. Since the first production of The Christmas Revels, nearly two million people have enjoyed a live Revels performance.
Revels, Inc. was founded in 1971 by John Langstaff to enliven the community through traditional dance, music, drama and poetry. All his life he believed we need art that connects us to each other. His use of participatory theater and communal celebration have drawn tens of thousands of people together. We are forever thankful for the strong foundation Langstaff created for us to build upon as we expand our artistic vision of Revels.
Puget Sound Revels® (incorporated in 1992) produced its first show in May of 1993, a Spring Revels at the Scottish Rite Temple in Seattle, followed by a Sea Revels at the same location in May 1994. In December of 1994, we presented our first Christmas Revels at the Rialto Theater in Tacoma. In 2022 we changed the name of our holiday show to The Midwinter Revels® in order to better encapsulate the richness and diversity of cultures and traditions that we seek to represent. The name is also a nod to our agrarian roots, celebrating the Longest Night and the turning of the year.
